WELCOME

Thank you to everyone who has made Summer 2024 a great season for the downtown shop!

Our downtown shop at 51 3rd Ave, Troy, NY will close Saturday, September 28.  Be cool, get a bike, support your community.

Troy Bike Rescue is a collective of cycling enthusiasts operating a volunteer-run bicycle resource space in North Central Troy. We are committed to removing bikes from the waste stream and getting them back on the streets. We help to build bicycle community in the capital region through hands-on education.  You can join us!  We are always looking for new members who are interested in community and youth empowerment, creating safe spaces, questioning corporate car culture, and workin’ on bikes.  No experience necessary!

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Volunteering is as simple as showing up to a shop session and beginning to participate. As a new volunteer you will have a lot to learn, like where we keep things, and how to answer the many questions you will receive, but be patient, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. The key to volunteering is coming back and creating a semi-consistent schedule for yourself and others. If you keep showing up, not only will you learn, but your presence will be appreciated.

DONATE BIKES & PARTS

We’re always trying to give old things new, awesome homes and part of that is a screening process for donations.  Please email tbr.collective AT gmail DOT com to inquire. THANKS!!

DONATE MONEY

ADOPT A BIKE

Refurbished bicycles are available for adoption for a donation on a sliding scale. Bikes are grouped into several categories ($15-30, $30-60, $60-100, etc…), depending on quality and labor spent. Adoption Bikes are available on a first come first serve basis, and are sold “as is” (some may require some TLC). All proceeds from bike adoption fees pay TBR overhead. Without your donations, we cannot do what we do.

TBR is now operating a retail pop-up in downtown Troy at 51 3rd St. where we have a larger array of professionally serviced and refurbished used bikes at a slightly higher pricepoint. New and used accessories and parts are also available. All proceeds benefit our youth and adult community programming and outreach

ABOUT US

Established in 2001, Troy Bike Rescue (TBR) is a staple of the North Central Troy community and the broader Capitol District. We started when our founder saw bicycles in a repairable condition being scrapped and decided to use these abandoned bikes as a tool to build community, nurture skills, and improve people’s lives by offering bicycles to those who need transportation. In 2011, we purchased our own building, located at 3280 6th Ave, where we have operated continuously since.

Our Youth Shop started shortly after we purchased our building. We mentor and work with mostly North Central young people during the warmer months. We have worked hard to build anti-racist structures. Our positive after-school programming is an anti-gun violence strategy that allows young people to experience constructive adult role models, gives older youth the opportunity to act as mentors to their younger counterparts, and provides a safe space for young people to spend their otherwise unstructured time during the summer and after school.

We have been using the bicycle as a tool to bring people together for over 2 decades now! Come by and see if you want to join us in building community and offering something really unique and special in the neighborhood and Capitol Region.
